The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

Finally I’ve finished this book, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes the other day.

Written by Suzanne Collins.

In 2013, I started reading The Hunger Games trilogy book.

It started because I watched the movie first.

I wrote about the review on this blog too.

Now, 10 years later, since the movie has been released this year,

finally I started and finished the book too.

The book was actually released in 2020.

In fact, I didn’t buy it this time. My sister bought it. I just read it.

Even after 10 years, I guess I still love this universe created by Suzanne. 😊💕

This is the synopsis of the book, what it’s all about. (Credit: https://shorturl.at/amHKT)

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes takes place in the dystopian world of Panem, during the tenth annual Hunger Games. It follows the story of Coriolanus Snow, who later becomes the tyrannical President Snow depicted in the original series. The book explores themes of power, privilege, and the loss of innocence. It delves deep into the characters’ motivations and provides a gripping backstory to the Hunger Games.

The book served as the prequel book of the original trilogy.

It shows the story of how Snow become the person he is in Katniss Everdeen’s story.

I really like how Suzanne wrote Snow’s story.

In fact, I can see how similar Snow is with Katniss.

The 18 years-old Snow is quite the same with 16 years-old Katniss.

The way they try to survive in that world.

Be able to feed their family, to just have food and make it for the day.

With what has happened in his early life, I understand what make him obsessed with Katniss.

What made him want Katniss to prove things to him.

The character build up for Snow is really well written.

Like every decision that made him torturing Katniss, is like the result of his past life haunting him.

I’m glad I watch the movie and finish reading the book.

About the movie, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Overall, it’s good and fine.

But yeah, since it’s a movie, there are quite a lot of things from book

that you can’t simply add to the screenwriting.

I totally understand that.

However, at some part of the movie, it feels choppy.

Like the continuation of one scene to another left me feelings it kinda jumpy.

Without proper explanation.

My overall rate was 6.5/10.

Can’t even give it 7/10.

I believe somehow the screenwriting have a potential to be better.

Nonetheless, I really love the OSTs.

This book have like A LOT of songs and it was composed and arranged very well.

Really suit with the theme of this movie and book.

This is the playlist of the OSTs from Spotify

The main song for this movie is called Can’t Catch Me Now by Olivia Rodrigo.

This song is like the Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift for the first Hunger Games movie.

It was well written suited with the story of Lucy Gray Braid.

Really love it so much.

My rating for the book is 10/10.

Just like the trilogy.

Suzanne’s storytelling is a masterpiece indeed.

Till next post~ Bye 👋
